Undergoing physical therapy? Learn the 3 foods to eat for faster recovery.
If you have suffered from a shoulder injury, you will know that this condition can be very devastating. I know because I endured this condition for so long and it was only when I was introduced to physical therapy that I experienced great relief from pain, discomfort, and all the other symptoms. And if there was one thing that I learned during my excellent physical therapy at Oriole Physiotherapy, it was the importance of having the proper diet to go along with your rehabilitation.
It must be remembered that during therapy the body is trying to repair and rebuild to its optimum level. The disorder may cause loss of appetite, loss of body function, and reduction of energy. It is therefore very important to replenish those losses by eating foods with the right nutrients that not only allow you to regain what you have lost but hasten recovery.
While your physical therapist would be recommending the proper diet for you, to give you an idea, here are some foods you should be eating while under physical therapy:
Foods Rich in Protein
Protein is said to be the building block of our cells, tissues, and muscles, so these are very important while we are trying to regain our strength and body functions. No amount of exercises will give you the needed muscle strength and endurance without the amino acids to propel this growth. You will be requiring proteins that may be more than the recommended daily allowance of 46 to 56 grams. These foods may be derived from lean meat, poultry products, fish, beans, eggs, nuts, and dairy products. Be sure to avoid protein-rich foods that are processed or those high in saturated fats.
Fruits and Vegetables
Fruits and vegetable are known to offer numerous benefits that will extend to a person undergoing therapy. These food items will ensure that we maintain our energy levels while at rest and under therapy. In addition, fruits and vegetables are rich in vitamins, minerals, fiber, and antioxidants. These are all elements that will greatly aid in recovery and rehabilitation.
Foods Rich in Vitamin C
Experts have strongly recommended that people undergoing therapy should have the proper levels of Vitamin C, which boosts the immune system thereby helping in the recovery. Aside from being an antioxidant, Vitamin C also stimulates the production of white blood cells that help in getting rid of invading pathogens. Getting Vitamin C should not be a problem since this is available from a lot of sources.
