How to Eat with Invisalign
Category : Food Hygiene
In the past, people who wanted their teeth aligned and straightened or needed to close gaps between their teeth had no choice but to wear braces. However, Invisalign has become a game changer in the world of orthodontics as it offers a discreet and painless way to fix issues you may have with your teeth.
Benefits of Invisalign
Getting braces, especially as an adult, can be scary. Traditional braces are likely to catch the attention of the people around you. Invisalign provides you with a more discreet and effective way to align and straighten your teeth.
Traditional braces stay in place until you get a dentist or any other dental professional to remove it. With Invisalign, however, you can remove it for short periods of time such as when you’re eating or drinking something hot.
Traditional braces have metal wires in them. These may sometimes protrude or have sharp edges that could scrape at your gums and inner cheeks. Furthermore, traditional braces use a lot force to straighten teeth. You don’t have to worry about these with Invisalign!
Traditional braces would take an average of five years to do its job. That’s a long time! Invisalign only needs at least a year to a year and half to work its magic.
● No tightening required
Unlike traditional braces that have to be tightened every so often, Invisalign is fitted to your teeth at each stage of the treatment. That way, there’s no tightening necessary. You just have to change to the next set of Invisalign aligners.
● Avoid dental problems
Having traditional braces makes it difficult to brush and floss your teeth properly. Because of this, you may end up developing dental issues such as cavities, tooth sensitivity, gingivitis, and bad breath. Because Invisalign is removable, you may brush and floss your teeth as normal.
Tips when Eating with Invisalign
Always remove your Invisalign aligners before you start eating. Chewing with your Invisalign would risk damage to the aligners such as breakage, distortion, and cracking.
● Brush and floss.
After you eat, brush and floss your teeth before putting your aligners back.
● Use mouthwash if you cannot brush right away.
Should you not have the opportunity to brush your teeth right after a meal, you may use mouthwash or gargle warm water to remove little bits of food that may be stuck between your teeth.
● Bring travel size oral hygiene tools.
Keep a little bag with you containing a travel-size toothpaste, toothbrush, and mouthwash in case you find yourself in a spontaneous food trip.
● Keep the case for aligners with you at all times.
Always remember to take the case to your aligners with you everywhere you go to make sure that you have a clean, safe place to keep them in whenever you have to remove them.
● Avoid hot liquids.
Hot liquids such as coffee and tea may damage and stain your Invisalign aligners. Refrain from drinking these kinds of drinks during treatment. If it is unavoidable, always remove your Invisalign aligner before consuming a hot drink.
An Invisalign aligner is a comfortable and easy alternative to traditional braces. With the obvious advantages they hold over the latter, you should definitely think about switching.
